The follo­wing is an over­view of the proces­sing of your personal data in the context of the use of the data­base of the Census project and your data protec­tion rights.

2. What data is processed and for what purposes, by which persons and on what legal basis? 

Website visit:

  • Types of data processed: commu­ni­ca­tion data (e.g. browser types and versions, opera­ting system, the website from which an acces­sing system arrives at our website (so-called referrer), the sub-websites that are accessed via an acces­sing system on our website, the date and time of an access to the website, the Internet protocol address (IP address) reduced by the last digit for anony­mi­sa­tion and other similar data and infor­ma­tion that serve to avert danger in the event of attacks on our infor­ma­tion tech­no­logy systems). 
  • Data subjects: Website visitors.
  • Purposes of the proces­sing: Provi­sion of the web offer.
  • Legal grounds: Proces­sing is neces­sary for the purposes of the legi­ti­mate inte­rests of the controller or a third party, except where such inte­rests are over­ridden by the inte­rests or funda­mental rights and free­doms of the data subject which require the protec­tion of personal data. The inte­rest lies in the provi­sion offered by the website and the secu­rity of the website. 
  • Log data are stored for a period of 7 days.

Regis­tra­tion as a user: 

When regis­tering, we process user data to create a user profile. 

  • Types of data processed: title, first and last name, e‑mail address. Optio­nally, further details can be added to the profile (display name, contact details). In addi­tion, successful and unsuc­cessful login attempts are processed along with the time and IP address.
  • Purposes of proces­sing: crea­tion of a user profile, storage of search history.
  • Legal basis: Regis­tra­tion is volun­tary and based on your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a) DSGVO. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future; the revo­ca­tion does not affect the lawful­ness of the proces­sing prior to the decla­ra­tion of revo­ca­tion.   • In the case of ongoing use, the data will be stored until revo­ca­tion or discon­ti­nua­tion of the offer. Regis­tered user profiles that have not been active (logged in) for more than 3 years will be deleted.  

3. Who is the reci­pient of your data?

Your data will not be passed on to third parties. For proces­sing, we use an external service provider who processes the data on our behalf and accor­ding to our instruc­tions within the frame­work of a contract proces­sing agree­ment pursuant to Art. 28 DSGVO. 4. Will your data be trans­ferred to a third country or an inter­na­tional organisation?

No data will be trans­ferred to a third country or an inter­na­tional organisation.

5. Is there an obli­ga­tion for you to provide data?

You provide all infor­ma­tion volun­t­a­rily, there is no obli­ga­tion to provide data.

6. Is there any auto­mated decision making inclu­ding profiling?

There is no auto­mated decision-making pursuant to Art. 22 DSGVO.

7. You have the follo­wing rights:

If your personal data is processed, you have the right to obtain infor­ma­tion about the data stored about you (Art. 15 DSGVO). If inac­cu­rate personal data is processed, you have the right to recti­fi­ca­tion (Art. 16 GDPR). If the legal requi­re­ments are met, you can request the dele­tion or rest­ric­tion of proces­sing (Art. 17 and 18 DSGVO). Under certain condi­tions, you have the right to have the personal data concer­ning you that you have provided to us trans­ferred to you in a struc­tured, commonly used and machine-readable format, if the proces­sing is based on consent or a contract and is carried out using auto­mated processes (Art. 20 DSGVO). If the proces­sing is based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 a or Art. 9 para. 1 a DSGVO), you have the right to revoke your consent at any time and without giving reasons for the future. The revo­ca­tion does not affect the lawful­ness of the proces­sing prior to the revo­ca­tion of the consent. After revo­ca­tion, your user profile will be deleted and you will no longer be able to access your search history. To revoke your consent, please contact the above-mentioned contact. Insofar as proces­sing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 letter e DSGVO and Art. 6 para. 1 letter f DSGVO, you have the right to object to the proces­sing of personal data rela­ting to you at any time for reasons arising from your parti­cular situa­tion (Art. 21 DSGVO). If you object, your personal data will no longer be processed unless we can demons­trate compel­ling legi­ti­mate grounds for the proces­sing which over­ride your inte­rests, rights and free­doms, or the proces­sing serves the asser­tion, exer­cise or defence of legal claims. The objec­tion can be lodged without any forma­li­ties. For reasons of proof, we kindly ask you to send the objec­tion by post or e‑mail. Please use the subject “Objec­tion.”

If you are of the opinion that the proces­sing of personal data concer­ning you violates data protec­tion regu­la­tions, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protec­tion super­vi­sory autho­rity, for example with the Berlin State Commis­sioner for Data Protec­tion and Freedom of Infor­ma­tion (Art 77 DSGVO).
