Data protection information pursuant to Art. 13, 14 DSGVO
The following is an overview of the processing of your personal data in the context of the use of the database of the Census project and your data protection rights.

2. What data is processed and for what purposes, by which persons and on what legal basis?
Website visit:
- Types of data processed: communication data (e.g. browser types and versions, operating system, the website from which an accessing system arrives at our website (so-called referrer), the sub-websites that are accessed via an accessing system on our website, the date and time of an access to the website, the Internet protocol address (IP address) reduced by the last digit for anonymisation and other similar data and information that serve to avert danger in the event of attacks on our information technology systems).
- Data subjects: Website visitors.
- Purposes of the processing: Provision of the web offer.
- Legal grounds: Processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests of the controller or a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require the protection of personal data. The interest lies in the provision offered by the website and the security of the website.
- Log data are stored for a period of 7 days.
Registration as a user:
When registering, we process user data to create a user profile.
- Types of data processed: title, first and last name, e‑mail address. Optionally, further details can be added to the profile (display name, contact details). In addition, successful and unsuccessful login attempts are processed along with the time and IP address.
- Purposes of processing: creation of a user profile, storage of search history.
- Legal basis: Registration is voluntary and based on your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a) DSGVO. You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future; the revocation does not affect the lawfulness of the processing prior to the declaration of revocation. - In the case of ongoing use, the data will be stored until revocation or discontinuation of the offer. Registered user profiles that have not been active (logged in) for more than 3 years will be deleted.
3. Who is the recipient of your data?
Your data will not be passed on to third parties. For processing, we use an external service provider who processes the data on our behalf and according to our instructions within the framework of a contract processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 DSGVO. This is Programmfabrik GmbH, Schwedter Str. 9B, 10119 Berlin.
4. Will your data be transferred to a third country or an international organisation?
No data will be transferred to a third country or an international organisation.
5. Is there an obligation for you to provide data?
You provide all information voluntarily, there is no obligation to provide data.
6. Is there any automated decision making including profiling?
There is no automated decision-making pursuant to Art. 22 DSGVO.
7. You have the following rights:
If your personal data is processed, you have the right to obtain information about the data stored about you (Art. 15 DSGVO). If inaccurate personal data is processed, you have the right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR). If the legal requirements are met, you can request the deletion or restriction of processing (Art. 17 and 18 DSGVO). Under certain conditions, you have the right to have the personal data concerning you that you have provided to us transferred to you in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, if the processing is based on consent or a contract and is carried out using automated processes (Art. 20 DSGVO). If the processing is based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 a or Art. 9 para. 1 a DSGVO), you have the right to revoke your consent at any time and without giving reasons for the future. The revocation does not affect the lawfulness of the processing prior to the revocation of the consent. After revocation, your user profile will be deleted and you will no longer be able to access your search history. To revoke your consent, please contact the above-mentioned contact. Insofar as processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 letter e DSGVO and Art. 6 para. 1 letter f DSGVO, you have the right to object to the processing of personal data relating to you at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation (Art. 21 DSGVO). If you object, your personal data will no longer be processed unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the assertion, exercise or defence of legal claims. The objection can be lodged without any formalities. For reasons of proof, we kindly ask you to send the objection by post or e‑mail. Please use the subject “Objection.”
8. If you are of the opinion that the processing of personal data concerning you violates data protection regulations, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example with the Berlin State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Art 77 DSGVO).
